The region elects its representatives

How do you vote?
According to the principles of proportional representation with list nominations. Every eligible voter has one vote. 80 seats are allocated to the city of Stuttgart and the five districts according to population size. Up to 16 equalization seats are possible so that the ratio of seats corresponds to both the result of the election in the individual constituencies and the ratio of the total number of votes achieved in the Stuttgart region.
Who can vote?
All German citizens within the meaning of Article 116 of the German Basic Law who have lived in the association's territory for at least 3 months prior to the election are eligible to vote. You can vote in regional elections from the age of 16. In contrast to local council elections, the right to vote does not apply to EU citizens. Around 2 million people are called to vote for the regional assembly, which is unique in Baden-Württemberg. The Stuttgart Region electoral area comprises the districts of Böblingen, Esslingen, Göppingen and Ludwigsburg, the Rems-Murr district and the state capital Stuttgart.
Who is elected?
657 candidates competed for the 80 seats in the regional assembly in the 2024 regional elections. This included 246 women (37 percent) and 411 men (63 percent). 13 parties and voter associations were admitted to the regional election. You can download the list of all candidates here.
