The regional assembly approved an amendment to the regional plan to define a regional development axis along the S4 S-Bahn line between Marbach and Backnang.

 

December 16, 2021

The Regional Assembly elects Dr. Alexander Lahl as the new Regional Director of the Verband Region Stuttgart (starting on 15 March 2022).

The regional assembly adopts a hydrogen strategy for the Stuttgart Region as well as a new regional co-financing program for the implementation of future-oriented hydrogen and fuel cell projects with a total of 20 million euros.

The regional assembly decides to invest a total of 16.22 million euros to strengthen the implementation of AI technologies in the region. Including in a regional co-financing program.

Bus and rail transport in the administrative district of Göppingen is fully integrated into the VVS fare network.

April 23, 2020
Region decides on investment offensive in S-Bahn infrastructure for the measures S-Bahn to Nürtingen, through-connection of further lines from the northern branch to Vaihingen/Böblingen/Ehningen, 15-minute intervals on the S60 Böblingen-Renningen and S62 as a supplementary service on the S6.

January 22, 2020
Region decides on framework conditions and regional financing for the first S-Bahn beyond the regional border. The implementation initially includes a combination of Hermann-Hesse-Bahn and additional S-Bahn between Feuerbach and Weil der Stadt, with the prospect of a transfer-free S-Bahn service between Calw and Stuttgart.

The extension of the transport contract between the Verband Region Stuttgart and Schlienz-Tours GmbH & Co. KG and thus the continuation of the regional express bus RELEX until 2024 is approved.

The major fare zone reform with the reduction from 52 zones to 5 ring zones comes into force. The regional assembly approved the reform in April 2018.

Regional Assembly approves the introduction of ETCS for the S-Bahn in the Stuttgart region, the extension of the S-Bahn contract with DB Regio by four years until 2032 and the purchase of 58 new S-Bahn vehicles.

 

July 18, 2018
The regional assembly approves the participation of Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart GmbH (WRS) in a joint broadband service company with a 14.3 percent stake in the new company.

The regional transport plan is adopted.

April 27, 2018
Regional Assembly decides to support a major VVS fare reform via the fare zone reform in the Stuttgart Transport Association (VVS), subject to secure funding.

 

22 November 2017
Transport Minister Winfried Hermann and Regional Director Dr. Nicola Schelling sign an agreement between the state and Verband Region Stuttgart to secure funding for S-Bahn transport until 2031. According to this agreement, the region will receive around 88 million euros next year, an annual share of at least 9.1 percent of the budget that the federal government of Baden-Württemberg provides for the financing of local rail passenger transport ("regionalization funds").

October 25, 2017
The Verband Region Stuttgart becomes a five percent shareholder in Baden-Württemberg-Tarif GmbH and finances around 100,000 euros annually. The GmbH is to be launched on January 1, 2018 and will gradually ensure that only one ticket will be required for buses and trains in the state from the timetable change in December 2018. The state fare will replace the Deutsche Bahn AG fare in Baden-Württemberg.

July 25, 2017
The Verband Region Stuttgart acquires a 25.1 percent stake in the company for the International Building Exhibition (IBA) 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart. The Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation (WRS) is to hold a further 19.9 percent of IBA GmbH, bringing the Stuttgart Region's total share to 45 percent. Other founding shareholders: City of Stuttgart (45 percent), Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects (5 percent), University of Stuttgart (5 percent). The budget for the IBA GmbH, which will run for ten years, is expected to be around two million euros per year. The Verband Region Stuttgart will contribute around 900,000 euros annually.

The regional express bus RELEX is launched on the three lines Kirchheim/Teck - Airport/Messe (X10), Waiblingen - Esslingen (X20) and Leonberg - Airport/Messe (X60).

The regional assembly decides to purchase ten new ET 430 S-Bahn vehicles. The financing volume amounts to over 80 million euros.

Minister Winfried Hermann, the Chairman of the Stuttgart Region Association, Thomas S. Bopp, Stuttgart's Mayor Fritz Kuhn and District Administrator Dr. Rainer Haas sign the Public Transport Pact 2025 "Sustainable mobility: for future-oriented public transport in the Stuttgart Region". This compromise opens up new opportunities for the Verband Region Stuttgart to shape regional mobility across all modes of transport. The strategic plan contains a strengthening of local public transport, a clear distribution of responsibilities and joint efforts by the state and the region for more reliable rail transport. The pact is subject to committee approval. The partners are jointly appealing to the state parliament to "bring about the necessary legislative changes".

The regional assembly elects Dr. Nicola Schelling as the new Regional Director of the Verband Region Stuttgart (starting 15 March 2014).

The new transport contract between Verband Region Stuttgart and DB Regio AG for the operation of the Stuttgart S-Bahn begins. It ends on June 30, 2028.

Regional Director Jeannette Wopperer retires.

 

December 9, 2012
The S-Bahn service on the new routes starts with the timetable change. The S-Bahn trains start running for the first time this night. They replace the regional night buses on weekend nights and before public holidays.

December 8, 2012
The Verband Region Stuttgart and Deutsche Bahn celebrate the opening of the new S-Bahn lines S4 (Marbach - Backnang) and S60 (Böblingen - Renningen) with an inaugural S-Bahn journey from Backnang to Renningen. Towns and municipalities took part with station celebrations along the new cross-city connections.

The Metropolticket (day ticket) is introduced on the initiative of the Verband Region Stuttgart. It is valid on buses and trains in the VVS area and the surrounding eight transport associations.

The regional assembly decides to finance eight additional S-Bahn vehicles. Four ET 423 and four ET 430 with costs of 22.3 million euros.

Over 58% of people in Baden-Württemberg reject the state's withdrawal from Stuttgart 21. Association Chairman Thomas S. Bopp sees this as a great endorsement for the Stuttgart region.

In the Memorandum of Understanding, the federal government, Deutsche Bahn, the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Verband Region Stuttgart and the state capital agree on the financing of Stuttgart 21.

Deutsche Bahn AG and the Verband Region Stuttgart sign a transport contract. It regulates the operation of the S-Bahn in the Stuttgart Region until 2013 and allows the entire S-Bahn network to be put out to tender during the term of the contract.

The Federal Administrative Court confirms the legality of designating the site for the new state trade fair center on the district of Leinfelden-Echterdingen in the regional plan.
