ISAP – Model Region Stuttgart

Massive heat stress, air quality problems and heavy rainfall: the Stuttgart Region and its key infrastructure facilities, such as the airport, port, long-distance roads and high-speed rail lines, are already being affected by the effects of climate change. For the region, adapting to these effects is therefore a key prerequisite for maintaining the quality of life and living conditions as well as the security and competitiveness of the regional economy.

Local recreation area, traffic route and important part of the ecosystem: the demands on the rivers in the region are high. With the “Addresses on the river” project in cooperation with the International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA'27), the Verband Region Stuttgart is pursuing the goal of better connecting the Neckar municipalities with the river and enhancing the Neckar as a recreational area for the population.

International Building Exhibition 2027

The International Building Exhibition will take place in the Stuttgart region in 2027. 100 years after the success story of Stuttgart's Weissenhof, the IBAʼ27 is looking for the future of building and living together in one of Europe's strongest economic centers together with the people of the region.

NONA

The NONA (New gOvernance for New spAces) project is part of the EU-funded Interreg Danube Transnational Program. The main objective of the interdisciplinary research project is to develop new green finance and multi-level governance models for sustainable spatial development in the Danube catchment area, which includes Baden-Württemberg.

Regional prize for schools

Small local measures can have a big impact and contribute to the big picture. This is the basic idea behind our Regional School Award for Sustainability, which is now being awarded for the second time.

Regional innovations in IBA’27-projects

In order to achieve the European roadmap of climate neutrality by 2050, the construction sector must also reduce its emissions to zero over the next two decades. Far-reaching and rapid measures are urgently needed - especially in new construction and building renovations.

How can delivery processes and commercial traffic be bundled and optimized in order to secure the supply of inner cities and in the countryside, while at the same time relieving the associated traffic volume?

Project MECOG-CE

The MECOG-CE (strengthening metropolitan cooperation and governance in Central Europe) project aims to strengthen cooperation and governance in metropolitan regions in Central Europe.

Commercial spaces

The economy in the Stuttgart region is currently undergoing a structural change that is characterized by electromobility, digitalization and Industry 4.0. It is becoming increasingly clear that many important strategic corporate decisions to set up new development and production facilities or expand existing locations can only be implemented if a sufficient supply of ready-to-build and needs-based commercial space is available.

Hydrogen and fuel cells

In the medium to long term, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies can make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions across all sectors and thus help to achieve climate protection targets.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers great potential for maintaining economic performance and international competitiveness in the Stuttgart region, further expanding existing expertise and innovative capacity and thus maintaining and creating jobs.

RegioRadStuttgart

Functioning mobility has many target groups and even more cogs that need to interlock. It is one of the biggest strategic challenges for the Stuttgart Region. RegioRadStuttgart's “bike sharing” is an important cog, especially for the so-called last mile.

Pedelec charging points

Electrically assisted bicycles offer environmentally friendly mobility and are increasingly being used for leisure cycling in particular. The installation of charging facilities for pedelecs, also known colloquially as e-bikes, along popular cycle routes increases the range and thus the reliability and attractiveness of cycling.

Economy and tourism

With the program for co-financing regional model projects and through cooperation in the area of business and tourism promotion, the region provides thematic impetus and supports the development of model projects.
