The region is home not just to business but also to roughly 2.8 million people. Culture and sport promote a sense of community within the region. KulturRegion Stuttgart e.V. and SportRegion Stuttgart e.V. are two important sporting and cultural organisations in the region. Verband Region Stuttgart is a member of both associations and provides them with financial support. It is also involved in other sporting and cultural events, some of which currently include cycling and Stuttgart’s International Festival of Animated Film.

KulturRegion Stuttgart has 47 members, including 43 towns and municipalities, three clubs and associations and Verband Region Stuttgart. It plans and organises regional cultural projects, bundles and promotes the existing cultural offering in the region and contributes to strengthening dialogue on cultural policy between local authorities, creatives and the public. Verband Region Stuttgart currently contributes approximately EUR 330,000 annually, with around EUR 150,000 co-funded by the local authorities. SportRegion Stuttgart consists of 54 local authorities, 39 sporting associations and 6 sporting bodies together with the Stuttgart Olympic training centre and Verband Region Stuttgart. It makes an important contribution to regional sport development and to location marketing. It currently receives funding of EUR 330,000 annually from Verband Region Stuttgart.
