International Building Exhibition 2027

The International Building Exhibition will take place in the Stuttgart region in 2027. 100 years after the success story of Stuttgart's Weissenhof, the IBAʼ27 is looking for the future of building and living together in one of Europe's strongest economic centers together with the people of the region. A dense network of different construction projects is currently being created throughout the region under the umbrella term "Internationale Bauausstellung 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart". The aim is to merge living, working, culture and leisure into multi-layered, sustainable neighborhoods. Around 100 construction projects have already been included in the IBA network. The most outstanding of these will become exhibition venues in 2027. 2023 also saw the first IBA Festival of Experimental Architecture, which will be held every two years until 2027. Pavilions and temporary, experimental buildings are to be created for which subsequent uses are being considered.

The International Building Exhibition is a prime example of how regional cooperation can solve specific tasks: In summer 2016, the regional assembly of the Verband Region Stuttgart initiated the process, and the company "Internationale Bauausstellung 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart GmbH i.G." was founded back in 2017. The Verband Region Stuttgart holds a 25.1 percent stake in the IBA, while its subsidiary, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart, holds a 19.9 percent stake. The main shareholder is the state capital Stuttgart with 45 percent. The Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects and the University of Stuttgart each hold a 5 percent stake. This concentrated mix of expertise will steer the International Building Exhibition in the Stuttgart Region in the coming years.

The Verband Region Stuttgart is also a founding member of the association IBA'27 Friends e.V. A project as ambitious and comprehensive as an International Building Exhibition in an entire region can only succeed if it is supported by many shoulders and can count on broad support. People in the Stuttgart Region identify with the IBA and are involved in the IBA'27 Forum, public participation processes and events. Another way of getting involved in the Stuttgart Region as a liveable, sustainable area is to become a member of the IBA'27 Friends e.V. association.
